What I'd really love this winter are some perfect sweaters. I've been longingly dreaming of 1920's sweaters, simple fit with sweet details adorning them. Something with a nice knit and a little rolled collar or a floppy sailor collar to top it off! Alas, the originals are nearly impossible to find and cost a pretty penny that'd make me never want to look at it sideways for fear of damaging it. The 1970's brought about some pretty charming inspired cardigans, but I have the darnedest time finding them in my size. Don't even get me started on the lace-collared 1980's sweaters and how they awkwardly fit my long torso. Sigh. The hunt continues!
Oh my all these sweaters are incredible! I'm a little fearfull of sweaters as I am yet to find a perfectly flattering one, but I am getting very inspired by them!
oh, these are just SO wonderful. I love the sweet faces of the ladies almost as much as the actual knits! I've spied some glorious sweaters from 1920 on Boardwalk Empire. So neat to see what they might have looked like in color!
These are so pretty, I love these photos!! I wish they weren't so expensive. I guess you could buy some plain knitwear and sew collars and lace onto them? From Carys of La Ville Inconue
those are adorable. love the little peter pan collars on most of them. i used to have a sea green sweater dress with short sleeves and a sleeveless pale pink lace sweater dress (it was lined in white) i got from an old lady at the church i attended back in high school. i think they were her mother's dresses.
Oh, lovely! Those collars are just perfect. I have a book of 20s knitting patterns I found in our attic; it's full of pretty sweaters and robes, I need to learn to knit!
do you knit? http://ivarose.com sells reproduction pattern books for sweaters just like these! i actually have a 1919 cardigan in my knitting queue; it doesn't look too difficult but vintage patterns can sometimes be vague. go here to look at patterns by decade: http://ivarose.com/chronological_listings
Oooh, these are all so pretty! I have so much trouble finding perfect sweaters. I'm super-short, so my torso is kind of awkwardly proportioned, so sweaters tend to either bunch up on me or look like a tent. It's so frustrating!
I love sweaters, but I never find any that are long enough/not baggy to suit my needs! Just look how cute these 20's ones are. Makes me sigh a wistful sigh. So workaday chic!
Your blog is beautiful and one of my favourites. I have awarded you a stylish blogger award, i'm sure it's not the first and won't be the last but here it is:
